Display tank: Custom-built with 4-inch (10-cm) thick acrylic viewing panels and fiberglass bottom. and rear wall 17,000 gallons (64,400 liters) 16x15x9 feet (488x457x274 cm).

The 17,000 gallon tank is the home of 100 types fish coming from various geographic locations of the world (Hawaii, Australia, Red Sea and Indonesia); several LPS/SPS reef corals.

Recognizing the necessity for supplemental Violet/UV Violet spectrums (ranging from 400 to 430 nm), the Polo Reef Tank has acquired four units of our Orphek Amazonas 960 iCon reef LED lighting solutions.

Our Amazonas 960 iCon 80w XP Blue Plus was reconfigured and customized to meet the specific requirements of this exceptional reef aquarium.

The new customized LED ratio for the Polo Reef tank (total of 80 XP LEDs):

• 26 XP 80w LEDs in the range of 400nm
• 26 XP 80w LEDs in the range of 420nm
• 28 XP 80w LEDs in the range of 430nm

 

 

These wavelengths are essential for photosynthesis and coloration, being absorbed by both chlorophylls a and c2. The violet band proved to be essential for the excitation of fluorescent proteins found in many corals.
